You Never Know What You Will Find at the World Meeting of Families!
Here I am in Dublin at the venue for the Vatican-sponsored World Meeting of Families–the last place in the world where I would have expected to find an all-gender bathroom. Yet, there it was!
The photos below are of two restroom doors, side by side, in the building where the media center is located. The identifying markers on the doors are definitely “signs of the times” !

Refreshing! At least there’s no debate that everyone pees, regardless of gender.
This down-to-earth item reminds me of an anecdote I came across in a news item several years ago. Apparently a diocese had submitted the plans for its new seminary building to the Vatican for official approval. But the plans came back several weeks later with the cryptic notation: “Suntne Angeli”? Which is Latin for, “Are They Angels”? The Diocesan officials were baffled by the notation, so they took a somewhat closer look at the plans. And one of the examiners suddenly discovered the problem. The original architects had failed to include even one single rest room, anywhere within the building! Oops. Glad they caught it in time…before worse damage ensued. (Google “Gardez-Loo” or “Gardy-Loo” for an explanation of how this “stuff” was handled some 400 or 500 years ago.)
