An Indiana court has dismissed a fired church worker’s lawsuit against the archdiocese that pursued his termination over his same-gender marriage, though the reasons for the dismissal are unclear. Meanwhile, the discrimination lawsuits of two fire church workers in that archdiocese have been allowed to proceed.
A leading U.S. cardinal has been asked by the Vatican to negotiate a canonical dispute between an archdiocese and a local Catholic high school. The dispute erupted after the archbishop removed the school’s Catholic affiliation over its failure to comply with the archbishop’s request for a married gay teacher to be fired.
After their teacher was fired for being married to another woman, students at a Catholic school in Indianapolis formed a group to respond and push for a more inclusive church. A gay church worker has settled with the Catholic school which fired him over his same-gender marriage, but the worker is still suing the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. News also broke that the church worker is husband to a gay church worker which a nearby Catholic school refused to fire.
