One of the most disturbing chapters of my childhood still haunts me.
To me, mangoes are what I think of when I imagine God’s lavish, extravagant and abundant harvests. When Jesus speaks of grapes, vineyards and vine-growers in his parables, my mind races immediately to the sultry summers I enjoyed as a child in Goa, and I find myself nodding in perfect understanding of the divine story.
Many LGBTQ people and allies lead lives of hushed fortitude. Their identities remain a secret, and stories of being deserted by family or condemned by religious and secular authorities are all too common. Just like Jesus at his passion.
The human person made in God’s image and likeness has, from the very beginning, been created for relationship: first of all with God, and then with other persons.
