What’s Next? The New Pope and LGBTQ+ Catholics
A New Ways Ministry Webinar
New Ways Ministry remembers with gratitude Pope Francis’ ministry and the doors he opened to welcome and urge accompaniment of LGBTQ+ Catholics. As we await the man the College of Cardinals, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, will select as our next pope, we hope that our next Holy Father will continue and even expand that ministry.
On Sunday, May 11, 2025, at 4:00 pm Eastern U.S. time, New Ways Ministry will host a panel to discuss our hopes for the Catholic Church after Pope Francis. The panelists will be Claire Giangravé, a Rome-based reporter for Religion News Service, covering the Catholic Church and the Vatican; and Heidi Schlumpf, a senior correspondent at the National Catholic Reporter and is that news outlet’s former executive editor.
The program will be moderated by: Brian Flanagan, PhD, is a theologian who researches synodality, and he is a Senior Fellow at New Ways Ministry.
If a new pope has been elected, we’ll discuss who he is and how LGBTQ+ issues might be treated during his papacy.
If a new pope has NOT been elected, we’ll discuss conclave dynamics, possible outcomes, and our hopes for the future.
Registration is via Zoom.
