Take a Lenten Journey with New Ways Ministry

“I tell you now that I will lead you out of your oppression… to a land flowing with milk and honey” (Exodus 3:17)

Journeys is New Ways Ministry’s online set of scripture reflection exercises designed for LGBTQ+ ministy that can be used for individual contemplation and group discussion.  This series is an invitation to walk with our ancestors, discover the great source of love, and celebrate our identities as children of God and LGBTQ+ persons and allies.

Each item in the series contains a section of Scripture, followed by questions for reflection. These questions can be used for personal meditation, journaling, or group conversations.

The scripture passages cover a variety of topics, allowing you to travel through the sands of the Bible and find your place in the Divine Story. Whether you are fleeing from “hardened” Pharaohs (Exodus 14:8), feel the urge to dance with abandon (2 Samuel 6) or pray with a heavy heart (Luke 22:41) these passages encourage you to wrestle with God and “not let go until you feel the divine blessing” (Genesis 32: 22-32).

Journeys contains a special set of reflections for the scripture readings for Ash Wednesday and Lenten Sundays. While you can peruse the whole series by clicking here, we have selected the ones designed for Lent and listed them below. (A companion set of reflections for Advent is also part of the Journeys series.)

Many parish and campus LGBTQ+ ministry groups have used these exercises as part of their spiritual development programs, and they look forward to using the program as a regular part of their outreach.
