Stay Tuned! Synod Assembly to Vote on and Release Final Report Today
The Synod on Synodality, begun three years ago this month, concludes today with the General Assembly expected to vote on and release its final report. Bondings 2.0 will be reporting from Rome once the document is released, examining its contents and how it might impact Catholic LGBTQ+ issues. We will also cover reactions to the report in the coming days.
Whatever the outcome of this formal process, synodality as a tool and style for how the Catholic Church operates is a living project. I’m often quite amazed by how positive and hopeful you make your comments on these ecclesial topics. But you have to find yourselves in front of a bit of a challenge with this document to find a generous interpretation!
Granted, my Italian is rudimentary (that’s the only language in which the report is published at the moment so far), but I couldn’t find anything good for us. A meager acknowledgment in paragraph 50?
On the flip side, if I understand well the last sentence of paragraph 64, they “express anew the closeness and support of the Assembly for the people who chose a life of solitude out of fidelity to church magisterium and tradition in regard to matrimony and sexual ethics, teachings in which these people recognize a source of life.” I kid you not…
So here we are, after years of whatever this whole thing was. I don’t even know what to feel anymore.
