Holy Thursday: Into the Very Midst of Life

“Last Supper lv” by Ivan Guaderrrama

Jesus is apt to come, into the very midst of life at its most real and inescapable moments. Not in a blaze of unearthly light, not in the midst of a sermon, not in the throes of some kind of religious daydream, but…at supper time, or walking along a road…He never approached from on high, but always in the midst, in the midst of people, in the midst of real life and the questions that real life asks.

Thank you for the beautiful, colorful, misty photo of the Last Supper. I have bookmarked it and will look at it when I need inspiration.

Such a beautiful text, Francis — and all the more eloquent for its brevity. What gives me the deepest and most joyous hope is to see the documentation of college-age young people who are still immersed in spiritual life and values — while living the fullness of their emerging young adulthood. This beautiful photo (and the accompanying text), from the chapel at Holy Cross College – my undergraduate alma mater — needs no further explanation:
To crib a quote from Dickens’ Tiny Tim: “GOD BLESS US, EVERY ONE!”
