Maybe the talk could be rescheduled for a Protestant church. I bet a lot of the social workers would attend despite the objections of the archbishop and the Catholic social service officials.

Excellent suggestion, John. As Bob alluded to in his post, when bishops silence good and faithful women and men especially when their ministry is related to the poor, I believe it helps our cause, our children and friends. Dorothy Day got the same kind of push back from bishops, Edwina Gately, Joan Chittester, Richard Rohr’s, etc. I suspect some bishops wouldn’t let Jesus talk at a Catholic sponsored event. We’re in pretty good company, eh.

As a former Social Worker and priest what an insult that a group of adult intelligent people would be treated like little children!

Why do the Catholic Hierarchy continue to believe that they can silence the Holy Spirit when he speaks through The People of God by censorship.

To John above: When the Archbishop of Philadelphia tried to silence the Equally Blessed Coalition and closed a local Catholic Church to them, the venue was changed to a welcoming Protestant Church located directly across the street from the venue of the World Meeting of Families. The bell tower of this church was decorated with rainbow flags. Isn’t it amazing how the Spirit works?
