April 10th Press Conference Coincides with Papal Visit to U.S.

At the press conference, the speakers will each make a five-minute "open statement' to the Pope, describing their lives and hopes for their Church.  Press representatives will then have the opportunity to engage them with questions.

Richard Rodriguez , social and cultural commentator, author, and Peabody-award winning contributor to PBS' News Hour with Jim Lehrer.
Teresa DeCrescenzo , Executive Director of Gay Lesbian Adolescent Social Services (GLASS), Los Angeles, nationally recognized social work administrator, and professor at the University of California, Northridge.
Gregory Maguire , author of more than a dozen children's novels and several for adults, most notably Wicked, which has been adapted into the Tony-award winning Broadway musical.
Heather Mizeur , Delegate representing the 20th District in Maryland (Takoma Park/Silver Spring), and a recognized leader in the debate about legalizing same-sex marriage.

WASHINGTON, DC - In advance of Pope Benedict XVI's visit to the U.S., four prominent lesbian/gay Catholic will address the pontiff through open statements about their lives, loves, and hopes for the church at a press conference on Thursday, April 10th, 2008, 9:00am-11:00am in the Murrow Room of the National Press Club, 529 14th Street, NW, 13th Floor, Washington, DC.

"A Few Minutes with the Pope: Lesbian/Gay Catholics Speak About Their Church" is the title of the event, sponsored by New Ways Ministry.  The event is scheduled just five days before Pope Benedict XVI begins a pastoral visit to Washington, DC and New York City.

The featured panelists at the press conference, selected because of their proven ability to be reflective not only about their sexuality, but about their faith, are leaders in the worlds of social service, literature, politics, and journalism:
