Honoring Sister Margaret Farley, RSM, who, through her scholarship, pastoral leadership, and other activities, has helped to build bridges of justice and reconciliation between the Catholic Church and its gay/lesbian members.
Margaret Farley is the author or co-editor of six books, including Personal Commitments: Beginning, Keeping, Changing; and Compassionate Respect: A Feminist Approach to Medical Ethics. She has published more than 80 articles and chapters of books on topics of ethical methodology, sexual ethics, medical ethics, social ethics, historical theological ethics, ethics and spirituality.
Sister Farley is a past president of the Catholic Theological Society of America and of the Society of Christian Ethics. She received the 1992 John Courtney Murray Award for Excellence in Theology from the Catholic Theological Society of America. Margaret Farley has contributed to both church and society through her work with human rights groups, social justice organizations, innovative educational projects, national commissions, and religious communities. She has been a frequent guest speaker at meetings of Catholic women religious. Sr. Margaret has given plenary speeches at New Ways Ministry's National Symposia in Chicago, 1992, in Pittsburgh, 1997 and in Minneapolis, 2007. The clarity of her insights impress all who hear her speak.
