Celebrating 35 Years of Ministry in the LGBT Catholic Community!

New Ways Ministry was incorporated as a non-profit, tax-exempt organization in the state of Maryland in 1978. 
The organization consists of a Board of Directors, an Advisory Board, professional program staff and volunteers.

Mary Byers

Mary Byers is a member of the Catholic Parents Network in the Philadelphia area.  She and her husband Joseph are the parents of seven children, three of whom are gay.  They are active with Dignity/Philadelphia and with Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG).  Mary provides rainbow fishpins to all who wish to manifest a sign of Christian support for the gay and lesbian community.  Mary and Joe work with the Philadelphia Archdiocesan Catholic Social Services to provide hot meals for homeless men. 

Anna Koop, SL, earned a Masters degree in Social Work from Catholic University of America. She served on the leadership team of the Loretto Community, as well as in outreach to new vowed members.  Anna is a founding member of the Catholic Worker House in Denver, where she has lived for thirty years, as well as a founding member of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, for which she is a board member.  With two women, for whom she witnessed a gay union, she began a retreat for “Lesbian, Bisexual and Questioning Women of Faith,” held at the Loretto Motherhouse.

Elizabeth Linehan is a Sister of Mercy of the South Central Community.  Since 1976, Betsy has taught at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA.  Having chaired the Philosophy Department for fifteen years, she is currently an Associate Professor of Philosophy and co-chair of the Alliance, a committee that promotes welcome and inclusion of glbt members of the SJU community. For this work, she received the Deo Gratias Award from Dignity/ Philadelphia.

Patricia McDermott, RSM, is a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas and currently serves on its Institute Leadership Team.  She has taught pastoral theology at the secondary, college and graduate levels and served on numerous healthcare and education boards.  She also served as president of her home community, the Omaha Regional Community.

Cornelius Hubbuch, CFX, served as a high school teacher, principal, Provincial and Vicar General of the Xaverian Brothers.  He chaired several boards of the Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Schools and was the Director of Formation for the schools.  He was an Assistant Professor and co-director of the Institute for Spirituality and Worship at the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley and served on the staff at the Southdown Institute in Canada.  He is currently on the Leadership Team of his province.

Matthew Myers is a co-member of the Loretto Community.  He earned his BA in Philosophy from John Carroll University in Cleveland, served as an Americorps volunteer at the Torture Abolition and Survivors Support Coalition, and completed graduate theological studies at the Washington Theological Union.  He is a former staff member of New Ways Ministry, and currently works for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

Br. Anthony LoGalbo, OFM, is a Franciscan Friar of Holy Name Province. He received an M.A. in Library Science from the University of Denver and an M.A. in Christian Spirituality from Creighton University. His served as Librarian at Holy Name College, Washington, D.C. and at the Franciscan Institute of St. Bonaventure University. Tony was a missionary in Brazil and ministered to people with AIDS in Boston and New York. He served as Director of the Center for Franciscan Spirituality & Spiritual Direction at St. Francis of Assisi Church, New York City, and is currently serving as Assistant Director of Post-Novitiate Formation for his community.

Anthony LoGalbo, OFM

Ryan Sattler began his life as an activist/volunteer in his hometown of Milwaukee and since 1986 in York, PA, focusing on issues of racism, poverty, justice, and equality, Ryan has served on numerous community boards and church related committees. Ryan, with his wife Joan, have been called to the LGBT ministry in part due to supporting his, now deceased, younger lesbian sister. Since moving to Baltimore in 2009, they have become active members of St. Matthew Parish and have been instrumental in forming LEAD, a ministry supporting LGBT Catholics, their families and friends.
